TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY – A 33-year-old New York man with a prior arrest for conspiracy to commit assault faces new criminal charges after police responded to a report of a physical domestic dispute at Camelback Lodge late Saturday night, with the caller indicating the male may have been armed with a knife.
Joseph M. Wilson of Saugerties, NY was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and public intoxication following a brief altercation with Pocono Township Police officers who responded to the resort.
Wilson posted $5,000 unsecured bail and was released from Monroe County Correctional Facility. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 17 at 10 AM before Magisterial District Judge Paul J. Gasper.
The Incident
Pocono Township Police responded to Camelback Lodge at 193 Resort Drive around 11:45 PM on November 30 after receiving a report of a physical domestic incident involving a male who was possibly armed with a knife, according to the criminal complaint.
When officers arrived, they found the female caller had already left the room and was waiting in the hallway. Wilson then emerged from the room visibly intoxicated, police said. Officers gave Wilson lawful commands. He failed to comply, leading to a brief physical altercation before police subdued him and took him into custody, according to the complaint.
Police have not disclosed the nature of the domestic dispute, the relationship between Wilson and the caller, or whether a knife was recovered at the scene.
Prior Criminal History
This is not Wilson’s first brush with law enforcement.
In December 2022, Saugerties Police Department in Ulster County, NY arrested Wilson—then 30—on a charge of Conspiracy in the 6th Degree for his alleged role in an assault at a local business.
According to Saugerties police, Wilson entered the business and “initiated an interaction with employees that provided opportunity for his accomplice” to assault the owners. Wilson’s alleged accomplice, Robert Nuzzo, 28, of Lake Katrine, choked one of the victims during the attack, “compromising the victim’s ability to breathe,” police said. Both victims were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Wilson was located and arrested on December 19, 2022. The disposition of that case is not immediately clear.
Charges Filed
Wilson was arraigned December 1 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge and charged with:
- Disorderly Conduct – Hazardous/Physical Offense (M3), 18 § 5503 §§ A4
- Harassment (Summary)
- Public Intoxication (Summary)
Bail was set at $5,000 unsecured. Wilson posted bail and was released.
