STROUDSBURG — Police are searching for a 24-year-old Long Pond man accused of trying to deposit a fraudulent U.S. Treasury check at a local credit union back in April.
Joe-Farentz Louis XVI is wanted on felony forgery and receiving stolen property charges after Stroud Area Regional Police say he deposited a bogus $10,000+ Treasury check at NEPA Federal Credit Union on Clay Avenue.
According to police, Louis XVI walked into the credit union around 4:25 p.m. on April 3 and tried to deposit the check, showing his driver’s license as ID. Four days later, the credit union contacted police after the IRS confirmed the check was fake and hadn’t actually been issued to him. The bank caught it before releasing any money.
Police filed charges in November, and Magisterial District Judge Paul Gasper issued a felony warrant for Louis XVI’s arrest on November 6. He’s charged with third-degree felony forgery and misdemeanor receiving stolen property.
The 6-foot, 180-pound man with brown hair and brown eyes lists an address in Long Pond. Court records show he’s already dealing with a separate case in Northampton County—a guilty plea from November 2024 for driving on a suspended license, with fines he’s been paying off monthly.
