Pocono Authorities Seek Man Wanted for $4,200 Check Forgery

POCONO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Law enforcement in Monroe County is asking for the public’s help in locating Arthur Gonzalez Rivera, 31, who is wanted by the Stroud Area Regional Police on a felony forgery warrant. The charge stems from allegedly attempting to cash fraudulent checks totaling more than $4,200 at a local bank.

According to police, on June 22, 2023, officers were dispatched to the NBT Bank in Stroud Township after a teller reported that a man tried to cash a $4,200 check. By the time police arrived, the suspect had already left. The bank official later told investigators the man had previously cashed a $1,000 check.

Investigators say Rivera left behind identification at the bank, identifying himself by name. When police spoke with the account holder, she said Rivera had stolen her checkbook and written checks to himself without her permission.

Rivera is charged under Pennsylvania’s 18 Pa.C.S. § 4101(a)(3) statute, which involves “uttering” a forged document. Because of the amount and circumstances, the charge is elevated to a second-degree felony, carrying potentially severe penalties.

Described by authorities as a 31-year-old Hispanic male, Rivera is approximately 5’9″ and 150 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered “most wanted”, and could be in either the Pocono or Lehigh Valley region, according to the Stroud Area Regional Police.

Anyone who believes they have seen Rivera or knows where he may be is urged to contact the Stroud Area Regional Police. Tips may be submitted anonymously.

He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
