BRODHEADSVILLE — A two-vehicle crash brought down powerlines and knocked out power to the surrounding area on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township in southern Monroe County late Tuesday night, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Pennsylvania State Police from the Fern Ridge barracks, Chestnuthill Township Volunteer Fire Company Station 43, and Monroe County EMS responded to Route 115 at Switzgable Drive in Brodheadsville for a motor vehicle accident with injuries and powerlines down on a vehicle.

Photos from the scene show two vehicles with catastrophic front-end damage — a silver SUV and a dark blue sedan — both heavily damaged near a utility pole along the Monroe County roadway. Emergency crews worked the scene as debris littered the highway.

The downed powerlines caused a power outage affecting the surrounding Brodheadsville area. It was not immediately clear how many PPL Electric customers in Monroe County lost power or when service was restored.

The number of injuries and conditions of those involved were not immediately available. The names of those involved have not been released by Pennsylvania State Police or the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.

PSP Fern Ridge, which covers Chestnuthill Township and other portions of Monroe County and Carbon County, is investigating the crash.

Route 115 is a major north-south corridor through the Pocono Mountains, connecting Brodheadsville and the Route 209 corridor in southern Monroe County to Blakeslee, Pocono Raceway, and the Wilkes-Barre area in Luzerne County.

The Switzgable Drive intersection is located near the Route 115/Route 209 roundabout in Brodheadsville, a commercial hub in Chestnuthill Township.
