Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District — covering Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike counties plus parts of Luzerne and Monroe — is one of the most competitive House races in the country heading into 2026. Rep. Rob Bresnahan campaigned on banning congressional stock trading, then made 626 trades worth $7.2 million — including selling Medicaid-related stocks a week before voting for cuts to the program. This outlet found nearly 69% of his individual campaign dollars come from outside Pennsylvania.
Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti, his Democratic challenger, has raised more from California and New York than from the district she’s running to represent — nearly 70% of her individual money comes from outside Pennsylvania. In the only in-depth interview she’s given on Israel and Gaza, she never once said the word “Palestinian.”
