No Trial Date Set in Stroudsburg Wawa Killing as Court Weighs Moving Case Out of Monroe County

Andrew Quattrochi was supposed to stand trial this fall. Instead, his family remains jailed while lawyers argue over where to hold the case.

STROUDSBURG — The trial for the man accused of killing a teenager inside a Stroudsburg Wawa was supposed to happen this fall. It didn’t.

In May, Monroe County Judge Jonathan Mark indicated the eight-day trial for Andrew Quattrochi and his father Joseph would take place in September or October. Defense attorney Brett Riegel said he preferred October.

Instead, the Quattrochi family spent the fall filing legal briefs. Andrew, 25, remains locked up without bail. His father Joseph, 54, and brother Christopher, 18, sit nearby in Monroe County Prison on $500,000 bail each. No trial date is set.

The holdup: a fight over where to hold the trial.

The Venue Battle

Riegel filed a motion in June asking Judge Mark to move the case out of Monroe County, arguing media coverage has made it impossible to find impartial jurors locally.

The defense submitted its supporting brief on October 21. DA Michael Mancuso’s office fired back on November 3, opposing the move. The judge ordered both sides to submit written arguments in September, and he’s still reviewing them.

Until he rules, the case sits frozen—now past the one-year mark since the shooting.

What Happened

On November 30, 2024, 17-year-old Garrett Gearhart walked into the Wawa on West Main Street with friends. The Quattrochi family had just visited Stroudsburg Cemetery for a deceased son’s birthday and stopped at the store. Police say a brief confrontation occurred in the parking lot.

Minutes later, surveillance footage shows the family returning. Andrew Quattrochi and others stormed inside and attacked one of Garrett’s friends. When the Stroudsburg High School senior tried to intervene, he was thrown to the ground and shot once in the back with a 9mm handgun.

The attack lasted under 60 seconds. Garrett died at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono.

Andrew fled in his father’s white Dodge pickup. Minutes later, he texted his girlfriend: “I just shot and killed some kid.”

Three Defendants, One Trial

In September, Judge Mark ordered all three Quattrochi cases joined for trial:

Andrew Quattrochi, 25 — Criminal homicide, aggravated assault, 14 other charges. Surveillance shows him firing the shot. No bail.

Joseph Quattrochi, 54 — Conspiracy, hindering apprehension, evidence tampering. Stood next to Andrew during the shooting, then drove the getaway vehicle. Prior New York felonies barred him from possessing firearms. $500,000 bail.

Christopher Quattrochi, 18 — Aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit riot, corruption of minors. Helped start the attack and involved a 14-year-old. $500,000 bail.

All three have been jailed since their arrests—Andrew since December 3, 2024; Joseph since January 10, 2025; Christopher since March 4, 2025.

The Victim

Garrett Patrick Gearhart was six months from earning his welding certificate. He spent summers at Sorrenti’s Cherry Valley Vineyards in Saylorsburg—his late stepfather’s family winery. He loved mountain biking, anime, and rap.

His family called him “a pure soul that loved helping others.” That night, he proved it.

What’s Next

The venue ruling will determine whether the trial stays in Monroe County or moves elsewhere. If the defense wins, the case could shift to another county’s court calendar—adding more delays.

“Shooting the victim in the back while the victim was on the ground,” DA Mancuso has said, “really negates any sort of self-defense.”

The expected eight-day trial has no start date. The Quattrochi family waits. So does Garrett Gearhart’s.
