Quick Response Saves Neighboring Businesses

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they encountered active fire in the rear of Holy Stokes, a locally-owned shop at 114 Washington Street that specializes in skateboards, snowboards, and related apparel and accessories.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames and contain the fire to the Holy Stokes storefront, protecting adjacent businesses from major damage. The coordinated response between the two volunteer departments proved critical in preventing what could have been a much larger downtown fire.

According to officials, there was moderate fire, smoke and water damage to the Holy Stokes building and minor damage to adjacent structures. No injuries were reported, and no residences were rendered uninhabitable.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials and police are working to determine how the blaze started in the back area of the commercial storefront.

The scene was processed Sunday, and investigators continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses as part of their standard fire investigation protocol.

Monroe County Control Center dispatched emergency units to the scene around 10:15 a.m. Sunday, coordinating the multi-agency response.

This is a developing story. The fire remains under investigation by East Stroudsburg police and fire officials. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the East Stroudsburg Police Department.
